Derwood J. Henderson, age 70, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at his home. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late Robert Henderson and the late Mapher Harris Henderson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife: Jean B. Henderson; four daughters: Kimberly Janney, Roanoke, Va., Linda Taylor, Kings Mountain, N.C., Dena Jefferson, Harrisburg, Pa., Karen Brown, Charlotte, N.C.; three sons: Keith Henderson, Columbia, S.C., Robert Henderson, Rutherfordton, N.C., Randy Henderson, Spindale, N.C.; one sister: Wilda Joe Shultz, Rutherfordton, N.C.; four brothers: Clayton Henderson, Rock Hill, S.C., Jerry Henderson, York, S.C., Russell Henderson, Rutherfordton, N.C., Bill Harris, Rutherfordton, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Arrangements are being handled by McMahans Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Rutherfordton, N.C. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Harris First Baptist Church, with the Revs. George Whitmire and Randy Blanton officiating.
The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service in the church. Interment will be at Harris First Baptist Church Cemetery, Harris, N.C.
The family will be at the home.
