Working together with their community sponsor, Thermal Belt Rotary, the Interact Club of Landrum High School is sponsoring a ShelterBox to be sent to Haiti.

ShelterBox is a global grassroots Rotary club project. First conceived in the UK, there are now national ShelterBox affiliates in the U.S., Australia and Canada, all working through the Rotary network to provide a quick, planned response to natural disasters.

With any natural disaster the initial focus is on immediate needs. However, the need for shelter goes on, often for months, and sometimes years. Each ShelterBox provides critical shelter and warmth for up to 10 people. The boxes are packed with high quality new items, including a 10-person tent, 10 sleeping bags/mats, ground covers, water purification tablets, cook stove and cooking/eating utensils, tools, rope, flashlights, batteries, rain ponchos, etc. ShelterBoxes go immediately and directly to the people who need them most.

The complete cost of a ShelterBox is $1,000. Assuming that the recipients will use the contents of the box for approximately six to twelve months, the cost of the box is equivalent to the price of a daily specialty coffee.
