Rebuild location undetermined

The Polk County Republican Headquarters building will be demolished after the building was condemned following its roof collapsing.
Republican Headquarter Chair Cheryl Every says they will be building a “beautiful new headquarters” as soon as possible.
Engineers with the insurance company visited the building last week and alerted Republican officials that the building is not salvageable.
Every says the Republican board has not yet determined where it will rebuild, with the headquarters definitely staying in Columbus. The current location is also one of the options.
Demolition bids have been sent out and officials also already identified an architect to draw plans for a new building.
“We are looking at a couple of different options, one of which is rebuilding on our site,” Every said. “It will be a beautiful new building and an asset to Columbus. We are committed to staying in Columbus.”
The roof of the building collapsed just before Christmas. The heavy weight of snow was likely the cause. Every said there had been no prior issues with the roof.
The Republican headquarters building at 33 S. Peak Street was constructed in the 1950s or 1960s as the towns post office.
