Landrum boys, girls pick up wins over Southside

A week after falling to Southside Christian Academy by 14 points, the Cardinal mens basketball team traveled to Simpsonville and took home an electrifying win.

Tyler Logans game winning three pointer avoided overtime as the two teams were deadlocked with 1.1 seconds left on the clock.

I was not happy how we gave up an 18-point lead late, but I was happy that Tyler hit the game winning shot,” said Lyn Smith, Landrums head coach.

DeShaun Hall scored 22 points and had five assists. He was four-for-four from the free throw line and had two steals.

Corey McDowell had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three blocks.

Overall, the Cardinals were hot from outside, with Hall connecting twice, Austin Brown, JR Jackson, and Tyler Logan contributing the buzzer beater.

Logan finished with five points, while Landrum got nine from Jackson, and eight from Alex Bryant.

Landrum, now 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the region, led 17-12 after one quarter and 34-28 at the half.

The Landrum womens team also picked up a win, defeating Southside 52-34 on Tuesday.

The Lady Cardinals were led in scoring by Elizabeth Edmondson with 15 points, followed by Rosaruth Parton and Amber Whitside with nine points each. Jordan Jenkins chipped in eight points, Chloe Walters scored six and Ashley Hartsell and Brianna Bateman scored three and two points, respectively.

The Lady Cardinals, now 8-5 overall and 2-0 in Region II-A, dominated the first half of play, leading 34-11 at the break.
