Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson was born on April 18, 1935 in Spartanburg County, (Spartanburg, S.C.) to the late Mr. & Mrs. James & Emma Tanner. Mrs. Jackson re-dedicated her life to the Lord in 1971.

She was a member since early childhood at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, N.C. In 1978 she founded the Green Creek Community Mass Choir.

While faithfully attending Union Grove she became a licensed minister in 1982. She was also a Bible study and Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Jackson became the first ordained woman in the history of the Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Association. In 2004, she joined New Birth Greenville formally known as United Christian Ministries where she became an honorary Elder.

Mrs. Jackson was previously employed by Milliken Textiles in New Prospect, S.C. Mrs Jackson was a loving mother and homemaker that enjoyed leading people to Christ, singing with passion. She was a teacher by example, life changer and hero in her own right.

Mrs. Jackson was the widow of the late Mr. Bobby I. Jackson. They were married in January 1952 (56 years).

She had three sisters: Ms. Polly Edwards (Landrum, S.C.); Mrs. Lucille Smith, Columbus, Ohio (deceased); and Mrs. Sadie Goode, Polk County, N.C. (deceased).

She leaves seven children and three adopted children: Diane Canady of Green Creek, N.C., Bobby N. Jackson (Mary Ann) of Spartanburg, S.C., Mark Jackson (Sharon) of Green Creek, N.C., Getties I. Jackson Sr. (Anita) of Greenville, S.C., Carolina Cannon (Steve) of Landrum, S.C., Prince Canady of Green Creek N.C., Paula Canada of Mill Spring, N.C. and James Jackson of Greenville, S.C., 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
