Geneva Marks Hines

Geneva Marks Hines, 91, widow of the late Fred Woodrow Hines, died peacefully at her residence on Sunday, December 20, 2009. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, located at 3401 Trenholm Road, Columbia, S.C. 29204. A reception and visitation will follow immediately in the church dining room. The family requests that there be no visitors at the home.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Geneva Hines was born in Broadway, N.C., and was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Ossie Marks and Carrie Thomas Marks. She was also predeceased by her son, Allan DeWitt Hines, and brother, James Ossie Marks. &bsp;

Geneva was a graduate of Duke University (1939), received an M.Ed. from the University of SC (1972), and taught chemistry, biology and geology in the public schools of Wilmington, N.C., Scotland Neck, N.C., and Columbia. She was a founding member of the South Carolina Science Council. She was a longtime and faithful member of Trenholm Road UMC, a docent at the State Museum for over 20 years, active member of both the United Daughters of the Confederacy (Wade Hampton Chapter) and the Daughters of the American Revolution (Columbia Chapter), Kappa Kappa Iota Educational Sorority, and the Columbia Antiques Study Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Catherine OShields Hines Bolt and her husband, J. Dennis Bolt of Columbia; her son, Cameron Marks Hines and his wife, Carol Platt Hines of Blythewood; her son, Alexander Sandy Thomas Hines and his wife Lou Ann Redfearn Hines of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Bolt of Columbia and her fianc, Alexander Campbell; and sister, Elizabeth Cross Marks Jennette of Washington, N.C.
