Ring in New Year at Upstairs

The Upstairs Artspace is hosting a New Years Eve party for the community on Thursday, December 31, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The festive evening includes heavy hors doeuvre, wine and beer, live saxophone music by Ray Jackson, dancing, a mask decorating contest, and do it yourself action painting.

The Upstairs saw a vacuum as far as local New Years celebrations are concerned, says Gary Corn, president of the nonprofit organization. So we decided to throw a party.

A silent auction of gift baskets is planned for the first half of the evening. Examples: Weekend in Asheville (art-filled condo, free museum passes, etc), Fine Wines, Lovin Local Shops (selections from Tryons retail establishment), and A Gentlemans Cigar basket. Bidding on the baskets closes at 9:30 p.m. during the party.

Tickets to the party can be purchased at the Upstairs through December 24. After that, the gallery is open December 29, 30 and 31 for ticket sales. In addition, tickets can be reserved by calling the Upstairs at 828-859-2828 or sending an e-mail to frontdesk@upstairsartspace.org.

Tickets are also available at Vines & Stuff, The Book Shelf and Frog & Swan. A mask is included in the ticket price.

The Upstairs is located at 49 S. Trade Street in Tryon.
