Area churches celebrate the Christmas season

December 20

Midway Baptist Church will present its adult cantata, The Name Jesus at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The church is located on Hwy. 108 between Columbus and Mill Spring. Call 828-894-5633 for more information.
Oak Grove Baptist Church will present The Dawn of Redeeming Grace, its adult cantata at 6 p.m. Food and fellowship to follow.
Grace Foothills Church will show the classic Christmas film The Polar Express at 7 p.m. in the Tryon Theatre in downtown Tryon. All are welcome and there is no cost. Grace Foothills has been meeting for regular worship sevices in the Tryon Theatre since April of 2008. For more information about Grace Foothills, see the website at www.graceinfo.org.
Fork Creek Baptist Church youth will present the Christmas play While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks at 6 p.m. All are invited. Call 828-749-3347 for more information.

First Baptist Church in Gowensville will hold its annual Carols and Communion service beginning at 7 p.m. The church is located at 5650 N. Highway 14 near the intersection with Hwy. 11.

St. Lukes Parish Christmas Eve Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Landrum Presbyterian Church. For more information, call 828-894-8740.

Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration will hold a Christmas Eve Service that will be a Festival Choral Eucharist with instruments. The pre-service music begins at 7:50 p.m. and will include a special arrangement of carols for organ and flute and O Holy Night sung by Richard Wright. During the service the choir will sing Tomorrow Will Be My Dancing Day and I Wonder as I Wander, with Stephen Spence as bharitone soloist. An instrumental ensemble (flute, viola, cello and trumpet) will accompany the entire service. The church is located at 72 Charles Street in Saluda.
