District Attorney Hunt to seek reelection

Jeff Hunt has announced that he plans to seek reelection as the District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 29B, which includes Henderson, Transylvania and Polk counties.
Hunt says he was urged by some citizens to run in 2010 for the 11th Congressional District of the US. House, a seat currently held by Democrat Heath Shuler. However, Hunt says he believes he can “best contribute by serving the public of District 29B as their District Attorney once again.”
“The people of District 29B have honored me by allowing me to serve them as our District Attorney; and I am asking them to allow me to serve them in this capacity once again,” said Hunt in a press release issued this week. “The District Attorneys Office has many serious challenges in the coming years, including how to continue to perform the prosecutorial function in District 29B in an effective, efficient, honest and professional manner with shrinking available resources.
Hunt says his office has the best assistant district attorneys and non-lawyer staff in Western North Carolina, morale in his districts offices remains high despite limited resources, a hiring freeze and a salary freeze imposed by the state government.
“I am proud of the work we have accomplished, and the team we have assembled,” says Hunt. “We will if reelected, continue to work hard every day to hold those who commit crimes in District 29B accountable for their criminal actions.”
