The City of Landrum is approaching final artwork for a billboard it wants to create on I-26 promoting the city.

Landrum City Council met Tuesday and were updated that there are currently no suitable billboards available, so council decided to improve its drafted artwork for the billboard in the time being.

The current artwork is a view of the mountains with a Landrum lightpost. The citys billboard logo is, Theres more to do in Landrum, and the billboard will also say, Shop, dine, stay and play. The billboard will have the citys website and directions to downtown from exit 1.

Council has said they are working with the billboard company and are seeking one on the right side of the interstate coming towards Landrum from Spartanburg and also want the billboard to be north of I-85. The only available billboard at this time is near exit 5 and is not very visible, council said.

The city decided to place a billboard on I-26 after businesses attended a recent meeting saying the city needs to draw more visitors. Downtown merchants have helped in the billboard process with Wanda Wofford drafting the original artwork. Council decided to make some changes to the draft, such as making some words in block letters to be more visible and to check into possibly making the light post light up at night.
