In an effort to better secure Polk Countys Womack Building, commissioners approved Monday the first phase of a new locking system and cameras.Commissioners approved a payment of $4,806 to Security Appliance Co. of Columbus to install what the county is referring to as a new access control system.Security Appliance will install the new system, which will include two security cameras and controller panels with card readers and 100 cards for employees. Instead of keys, employees and commissioners will now enter the building with cards attached to their identification cards. Once the new system is in place, the county communication system will be able to activate the opening and locking of the Womack building for emergency situations. The new system will also enable the county to monitor who entered the building at what times after hours. The building will remain open to the public during operating hours.The work will be the first phase of securing the Womack building, with the next phase to be securing the interior doors of individual departments. The county is also drafting a security policy to ensure that no identification cards are used by anyone except employees.
