William Wayne Burgess, 56, beloved husband, brother, father, uncle and grandfather, of 40 Smith Road, Columbus died Friday, December 4, 2009.

A lifelong resident of&bsp; Polk County, he was the son of the late&bsp; Joshua and Mazie Jackson Burgess. Wayne was a man of great faith in God. He loved his family and his community and helped his friends, those down on their luck, and many others through volunteer work with his church, Coopers Gap Baptist.

Surviving are: his wife, Kay Foster Burgess; a sister, Doris Burgess Ford (Jackie) of Tryon; a nephew, Travis Ford of Tryon, a stepson Tracey Cox (Sherry)&bsp; and step daughter Marla Mabry (James) and granddaughter Sara Mabry, all of Hendersonville, N.C.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 7 in the Coopers Gap Baptist Church, with Rev. David Turner, Rev. Warren Elliott and Rev. Bo Caulder officiating.

Burial was in Mtn. View Baptist Church Cemetery, Mill Spring.
