The Town of Columbus&bsp; Monday asked Polk County to take over the town’s building inspection duties now that the town council has fired the town’s manager, Tim Holloman.

Columbus decided shortly after hiring Holloman a few years ago to create its own building inspections department partly because of Hollomans experience and certifications in building inspections.

Columbus agreed Monday to request that the county take over the duties. Council members said the towns building inspections department did not make that much money and it wasnt worth the time and cost for the manager to retain certifications.

Columbus swore in its new council last Thursday and the council’s first decision was to fire Holloman.

The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved Monday taking over the towns building inspections.

County commissioners said they have no problem taking back the duties. The county will have to send the request to the state first in order to officially take back building inspections within the town.
