Polk County schools saw an unusually high number of absences on some days in October, according to a report presented to the school board recently. The report showed that the number of absences in Polk County school was below average on most days, but was well above average on several days. In a normal year, the school district says it would average less than 80 students absent each day. The district topped that number from October 16 through October 23, exceeding 100 absences on both Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
