Tryon Arts and Crafts will host four separate workshops on Saturday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of their holiday events. Instructors at the facility will present programs in a variety of media during this one day affair in order to offer students the perfect chance to make those last-minute gifts for the holidays. Five instructors will provide techniques in pottery, stained glass, wire-wrap and silk scarves.

Experienced potter and ceramic instructor Nancy Heim will teach the pottery workshop during this exciting day. Heim has been an artist all her life and has taken classes at the Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts and John C. Campbell Folk School. She began teaching at Tryon Arts and Crafts in 2002. During the workshop, she will provide instruction on how to make trinket boxes sure to delight everyone.&bsp; Students will create, decorate and glaze at least three boxes out of clay. The boxes will be fired and available for pick up before Christmas. No previous experience with clay is needed to enjoy this workshop.

Rick Viehman will instruct a stained glass workshop. Viehman has practiced the art of stained glass for 23 years and his specialty is Tiffany-style lamps. This workshop is designed for students with or without experience in stained glass who want to get an idea of the process and principles of this beautiful craft with multiple techniques. Viehman will lead you through all the steps to create angels, Santa Clauses, and other holiday related pieces through the processes of lead came and copper foil.

Sonia Arnold and Charlotte Caughman will combine their jewelry-making skills and co-teach a wire-wrap workshop designed for gift giving and jewelry creation for the holidays.&bsp; This workshop is designed for students who have taken a previous beginning wire-wrap workshop. Students will choose their projects from a wide sampling of intermediate projects including rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants. Projects will be available in custom prepared kits with the students preference of beads (if applicable). Students may choose from a selection of holiday colors, Swarovski crystals, lamp work beads and much more. Students may make as many projects as they desire and supply costs will be determined by the projects chosen.

The fourth workshop presented on December 12 will be taught by Christine Mariotti, a talented fabric and textile artist.&bsp; Mariotti will cover quick dyeing methods to make colorful silk scarves with simple fold, dye and stencil techniques. Although ideal for gifts, you may just want to keep these beautiful scarves for yourself. Mariotti has been a textile instructor for over 30 years. After relocating to Tryon, she continues to teach in her area of specialty, silk painting.&bsp; Her vast experience will guide students as they create a beautiful piece of art.
