Celebrate the Season: Parades, strolls begins this week

The holiday season is here, andlocal towns offer many events to help you celebrate.
Columbus
The Town of Columbus will hold its “Christmas Carol Parade” Satur-day, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. in the down-town area. Floats, performances and decorations will entertain spectators, and Old Saint Nick will wrap up the parade, inviting children to visit him in his home in Stearns Park after the parade from 5-7 p.m.Vendors will be selling crafts, and Thermal Belt Outreach will be offering baked goods.
Participants in the parade should arrive at 3 p.m. for line up. For more information, call 828-894-8236.
Saluda
Saluda’s Main Street will be decked out in Christmas finery on Friday, Dec. 11 for the Saluda Hometown Christmas Stroll.
Businesses and shops are open from 6-8 p.m. and serve holiday refreshments while local musicians perform. The open house and musical events are closed with an ecumenical service delivered by Saluda ministers at the Saluda Presbyterian Church at 8:15 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., the Saluda library will offer a program called “Arctic Express,” which provides a “magical train ride” to winter festivals around the world.

Tryon
The Tryon Christmas Stroll will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m.
For the first time, the town will decorate a special Christmas tree in this case, a 45-foot Magnolia grandiflora opposite the Upstairs Artspace on Trade Street. A Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Santa will be at St. Luke’s Thrift Shop from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and choral groups, carolers and bands will perform throughout the downtown area from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Landrum
This Thursday, Dec. 3, Landrum will hold its Christmas Parade, followed immediately by the Christmas Stroll.
The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at the Depot on Trade Avenue and ends at O.P. Earle Elementary School. Afterwards, shops and restaurants will be open special hours, dressed up for the holidays and offering seasonal treats.
