Six Claydies sculpting together

Published 6:07 pm Monday, November 30, 2009

Stop by the sculpture room at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on a Thursday morning, and you will find six ladies creating clay sculptures. These ladies are the Claydies, a name created by merging the words, clay and ladies.

The Claydies met when they all signed up for the same sculpture class about a year ago. When the scheduled class ended, they decided to continue to meet each week.

Members of the Claydies include Gwen Bailey, Claire Carey, Jeanette Comer, Beverly Pickard, Jan Romine, and Lalage Warrington.

Between them, they have created a collection of varied works, from serious to whimsical. Most of the pieces are available for sale and can be seen and purchased on Thursday mornings between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the sculptor studio on the lower level of the Fine Arts Center.
