State map at Tryon Elementary holds many special memories

To the Editor:
I just finished reading the article in Wednesdays Bulletin about the Tryon Elementary School map.
I was so excited to see this special project featured, especially on the front page. I had the opportunity to talk with Kim Nelson briefly about her project a few months ago, but until reading the article I had no idea how much work truly went into the project. As a former student, employee, and mom of three children who will attend Tryon Elementary School, I wanted to personally express my appreciation to Kim, the other volunteers, and Williams Paint for making this project happen.
I have many special memories from my earliest years as a student of playing State Tag, walking across the map and even counting the cracks in the cement as it aged. I know every piece of history cannot be saved, such as the wall of children we painted when I was in the 6th grade, but I am so excited this one will be there for many decades (hopefully) to come. I am sure the teachers and students will use it for educational purposes as well as enjoy its aesthetic features as they enter the building daily.
Much appreciation again to Kim and all the other parents and citizens that made this happen.
