Try it youll like it. Its great! That was the response from resident Carolyn Pickering after her first trip in the new Tryon Estates People Mover.

A glorified six-passenger golf cart, the vehicle was recently acquired for transporting medical patients, residents and marketing prospects around the campus and ten-acre lake.

At a cost of almost $13,000, the battery-powered People Mover was paid for entirely from fundraisers by the residents and staff of Tryon Estates.

Only members of the staff are trained to operate the vehicle, which will soon have a logo on the front, curtains for use on cooler days and a shelter for storage on the property.

Sign-up sheets are posted on bulletin boards for residents to reserve rides on specific dates. Priority is given to residents who are physically challenged and otherwise unable to enjoy the outdoors.

In addition to its therapeutic value, the vehicle is in demand for marketing purposes and for everyday excursions. A contest to name the People Mover will be held in December.
