Tryon Fine Arts Centers Chris Farrell is a featured soloist in the upcoming Do-it-Yourself-Messiah presentation.

As Executive Director of the Center, she is involved in the many activities that embody the arts and production/performance thereof.

However, few people are aware of her other interests and capabilities, one of which includes her love of the cello.

With soloists and chorus singing the demanding score of the Messiah, midway in its performance is heard the simplistic Pastoral Symphony. In this piece, the Nativity is portrayed by the cello in a gentle melody whcih Handel had heard 30 years before his composing, and had never forgotten.

Thankfully, he included it in his oratorio, its quiet contrast underscoring the magnitude of the birth of the Messiah.

Farrell, cellist, plays this musical setting in the Messiah which will be sung at the TFAC December 3 at 7:30 p.m.

A reminder to all who are interested in coming to the theater – singers and/or listeners alike – this is a one evening event with no scheduled rehearsal. Singers accept the challenge of just doing it.
