Malcolm Thomas Murray

Malcolm Thomas Murray was born on May 15, 1916, in Newtown, Mass., the son of Thomas Frederick Murray and Harriet McIntosh Murray. His siblings were Harriet Murray (deceased), Jean Murray Strout (deceased), David McIntosh Murray, and Robert Hicks Murray.

Mal was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha at Boston University, from which he graduated in 1939 with a degree in business administration. After college, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving as a naval aviator in WWII.

He married Florence (Teddy) Steadman Cox Murray of Mt. Olive, N.C., in 1942. After concluding an executive career with Scott Paper Co. and Brown Co. in New York City in 1969, he and Teddy relocated to Wilmington, N.C. Mal joined Mr. Joseph Reeves in forming Harbour Associates, which became a well-known, widely respected real estate firm in the Wilmington area.

He loved sailing, golf, and fly fishing.

He is survived by three children, Nancy Murray Hiley of Tryon; Malcolm T. Murray of Cornelius, N.C.; Francis Murray Donnithorne of Denver, Colo.; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
