Tryon town officials have reported some interest from a development group interested in building a new Dollar General store on the lot in front of the Plenty of Fish Restaurant. To my knowledge, they have not yet made an offer on the property, said Tryon Town Manager Justin Hembree. I do know for certain that they have not submitted an application for a zoning permit.

The Plenty of Fish restaurant was once Sunnydale, a restaurant and center of many activities in Tryon, including the Rotary Club, the Tryon Little Theater-in-the-Round, horse show balls, New Years Eve and other celebrations. It was owned by the Kerhulis family for awhile, and by Norm and Marion Brannon for awhile. It is currently owned by Barbara Britt of Landrum.

The White Oak Community is building a new parking lot out front of the Benson Hall Assisted Living building. The depression area there is being filled in to make room for 24 new parking spaces, according to White Oak director Mary Lance. Those spaces will be used by staff to leave open the spaces directly in front of the building for visitors, she said.

S&H Country Store is open now on Hwy. 9 in Sunny View. The store carries major department store shelf pulls and overstock items at great discounts from regular retail pricing. S&H Country Store is open Monday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Carolina Pin-Hi Golf celebrated its third anniversary this past weekend at the short game range on Asheville Highway, between Landrum and Tryon.

The Town of Tryon is considering removing all the downtown No Parking signs, and replacing them with a new parking sticker system for downtown business employees. According to the proposal, the sticker would be displayed on the windshield so that the police and others can identify the vehicle. Parking areas for workers vehicles with such stickers would be identified and those parked in the wrong place would be assesed a fine of some type. What we are doing (about parking downtown now) is not successful and (the No Parking signs) are just one more sign downtown, explained Mayor Alan Peoples.
