Hulon V. Underwood

Hulon Van Underwood, 87, of 370 Sawmill Road, Campobello died November 6, 2009 at his home. He was the son of the late Smiley Milton and Eliza Van Patton Underwood and widower of Jean Sane Underwood.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Campobello since 1933. He had served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent, brotherhood director, Sunday school teacher.He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater and earned the Victory Medal and the Arrowhead Medal.

He is survived by three daughters, Gloria Underwood of Tryon, Sylvia Underwood Burch of Columbia, Md., and Denise Underwood-Hannagan and husband Al of Ellicott City, Md., and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Philip Underwood.

The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Campobello. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. at&bsp; the church, conducted by Dr. Alastair Walker and Rev. Donnan Lawson. Burial was in First Baptist Church of Campobello Cemetery.
