Silversmithing workshop at TAC

Published 4:52 pm Thursday, November 12, 2009

This will be the last silversmithing workshop for 2009. Tryon Arts
and Crafts welcomes back their silversmithing instructor, Dan Haga,
from Charlotte.
Haga is well known and respected in the southeast for the quality of
the numerous workshops he provides. He has provided many workshops for
TAC and the students love him.
A Texan by birth, Haga became so smitten with silversmithing that he
sold his insurance business in 1995 to take on the jewelry trade full
time and full force.
During this workshop, students will complete 2-3+ pieces of jewelry
while learning the basic skills of silversmithing, tools involved, and
use of the torch.
Other skills involved may include sawing, polishing, wire bending,
making bezels and toggles, setting stones, and using the flex shaft and
paste solder.
This workshop is open to beginning students as well as intermediate
and advanced and serves as a good refresher course for more experienced
students.Haga will provide new, more advanced projects for his
continuing students.
This workshop will be held Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m., and Sunday, November 22, from noon to 5 p.m. Students are asked
to bring a bag lunch and drinks.
Advance registration is required. To register please call the Tryon
Arts & Crafts at 828-859-8323. Spaces will not be held without
advance payment.
Payments can be made at or mailed to Tryon Arts & Crafts, 373
Harmon Field Road, Tryon, NC, 28782. Credit card payments can be made
in person or over the phone. For planning purposes, registrations fees
are nonrefundable after the 10 day mark prior to the workshop.
The cost of supplies will depend on the current cost of silver, the
number of projects students select, and is due to the instructor at the
time of the workshop.
