Polk Central students and staff celebrated being drug free and making positive choices Oct. 26 through 30 when they celebrated Red Ribbon Week.
Students participated in numerous activities celebrating staying drug-free that included a school-wide math problem, writing assignments and poster projects.
Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives.
The celebration was initiated in honor of US DEA officer Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffickers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs.
The winners of the math problem activity and Ms. Calhoun were awarded Red Ribbon notebooks, dog tags and hats by guidance counselor Susan Howell.
