Mills obtains Eagle, Pittman crowned Miss Landrum

Mr. and Mrs. Gay Corpening and sons, Mike, Gaden and Bryan spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crawford and family in Buford., Georgia and all went to Six Flags on Sunday.

George Grant Mills, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mills of Columbus, is the newest area Boy Scout to obtain the Eagle Rank. Eagle Scout Mills is a junior at Polk Central High School where he is a member of the Student Council, the Key Club, and the golf team.

Miss Carol Pittman was crowned Miss Landrum High on Friday night during halftime ceremonies of the Landrum-Boiling Springs football game. Miss Lucy Gibson was runner-up. They were selected by the&bsp; High School Student Body. Miss Melissa Dill was elected by the&bsp; football team as Miss Cardinal Football.

Mr. and Mrs. John G. Landrum, Jr. had guests this week, Mrs. Landrums sister, Dr. Jeanne Dienum and friend, Mrs. George L. Kingsmille of London, Ontario, Canada. The Canadians observed the Canadian Thanksgiving here on Monday.

Alan Leonard has returned to UNC- Chapel Hill after spending the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Leonard of Tryon.

Fred Lawrence has returned to N. C. State University after spending the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawrence of Tryon.

Gwen Sheehan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Sheehan of Green Creek was crowned the Polk Central Homecoming Queen Friday night during the halftime ceremonies of the Polk Central-Old Fort football game.

Rev. James C. Jackson, who has been workinf in the disaster area caused by Hurricane Camille at Billoxi, Miss, has accepted the pastorate of the First Congregational Church in Andalusia, Ala.
