“Ache Around the Lake” race organizers asked local artist Mimi Pospisil to create works of art for race winners at this years “Ache and Ouch” that was held on Saturday, October 10, at Lake Lanier.
All proceeds from this event benefited St. Lukes Hospital Foundations Excellence in Care Initiative, focusing on equipment and facilities upgrades.
For last years “Ache,” Pospisil who admits that she only recently pursued her lifelong interest in art created pottery awards unique to this mountain race.
Race organizers approached her again this year to create awards given to top finishers of both “The Ache” 8K and “The Ouch” two-miler. Pospisil says, ‘The Ache’ helped start something wonderful in my life.
Pospisil works in the pottery studio at Tryon Arts and Crafts (TAC), exploring all kinds of art from pottery to lapidary (cutting gemstones). She started delving into pottery about five years ago when her late father-in-law Barney Pospisil revived the pottery program at TAC. Pospisil says of TAC, Being at Tryon Arts and Crafts, volunteering and taking classes, and being around other artists has helped me develop my artistic style.
This year, she has changed her pottery design, making painted ceramic trays for winners, and even a Top Dog bowl for the fastest pooch. Pospisils awards were given to the top three finishers overall (male and female), and top three in each age group (male and female).
Winners took home a piece of art unique to the Tryon area that will always remind them of the day that they conquered the hills around Lake Lanier.
