The Upstairs Artspace’s 4th annual Silent Art Auction opens Friday, October 30, and continues through Saturday, November 7. The event has become a popular fund-raiser for the 31-year old art gallery and education center.
Donations of art and craft add up to about 60 works for every taste and pocketbook. There are paintings, drawings, prints, pottery, folk art, glass and sculpture. Some art has been donated by well-known local artists, including Linda Hudgins, Bonnie Bardos, B. J. Precourt, Margaret Davis, Claude Graves and Diana Gurri.
People can place bids Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Final bids must be placed by 5 p.m. on November 7. This year the Upstairs is adding a live auction immediately following the closing of bids in the silent auction. Professional auctioneer and raconteur Bill Jones will handle the sales of carefully selected works of art.
Last year’s auction raised about $7,000. Because of the live auction, the Upstairs hopes to do even better this year. “People have come to expect quality art at this event, and they won’t be disappointed,” says Gary Corn, who is co-chairing the event along with James Blanton.
The Upstairs is located at 49 S. Trade Street. For further information, call 828-859-2828.
