Tryon Fine Arts Center brings the Bard to area schools as part of its Arts In Education programming, providing a multi-faceted learning theater opportunity for area students. &bsp;

Responding to the reduction in budgets allowing for exposure to live theater, TFAC is producing &uot;Shakespeare To Go,&uot; a 45-minute collection of scenes from three of Shakespeare&squo;s comedies performed by students for students in Polk County and Spartanburg County District One schools from Oct. 20 -26.

With enthusiastic support from all school principals and drama teachers, auditions were held in early September at Polk County High School, Landrum High School and Chapman High School to find a cast of students. &bsp;

The cast calls for two men and two women portraying modern day students who perform multiple roles from &uot;The Taming of the Shrew,&uot; &uot;A Midsummer Night&squo;s Dream&uot; and &uot;As You Like It.&uot; Two young men, Jerreth Emory and Tucker Lawson of Landrum High School, will perform at all the programs.&bsp; &bsp;

Completing the cast touring in North Carolina are Shelby Ramsey and Katelyn Duncan from Polk County High School. Chapman High School&squo;s Hayden Bishop and Karla Nason will play a wide variety of female roles when the play is produced for schools in South Carolina. Students from all schools are currently rehearsing together with director Marianne Carruth at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.

Multiple performances are scheduled October 20 to 26&bsp; for elementary, middle and high school students in Polk County and upper Spartanburg County. Performances for the public will be on Saturday, October 24 at 1 and 3 p.m.
