&dquo;We are excited about having the Overmountain Men encampment as part of the Columbus Farm Festival,&dquo; said John Vining, Polk County Extension Director.&bsp; &dquo;The reenactors will be able to inform local residents and visitors of the impact the Overmountain Men made during the Revolutionary War.&dquo;

On October 5, 1780 there were 1,400 men camped in Polk County at Alexander&squo;s Ford. Around half of those fighters continued to march to King&squo;s Mountain, N.C., where they won a battle which changed the outcome of the war against the British. &bsp;

Thomas Jefferson called the battle of King&squo;s Mountain &dquo;the turn of the tide to success.&dquo;

The Overmountain Men are visiting the Columbus Farm Festival as part of their annual march that traces the route taken in 1780. &bsp;

The farm festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 3.
