Local law enforcement officers issue 20 citations in checkpoint

On Aug. 7, 2009 the Polk County Sheriff&squo;s Office with the Tryon Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Columbus Police Department and Saluda Police Department conducted two DWI checkpoints locations. The first location from 10 to midnight was conducted on Hwy. 176 near Ridge Road in Tryon. The second location from midnight to 2 a.m. was conducted at Hwy. 9 South near Chesnee Hwy. Polk County Sheriff&squo;s Office Officials say they are greatly appreciative to Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis and Green Creek Fire Chief Tarrance Randolph for providing extra lighting during the checkpoints.

Charges arising from the checkpoints are as follows:

&ull; Possession of methamphetamine: 1 count

&ull; Possession of marijuana: 1 count

&ull; Possession of drug paraphernalia: 2 counts

&ull; No operator&squo;s license: 5 counts

&ull; Registration violations: 5 counts

&ull; Inspection violations: 1 count

&ull; Open container: 1 count

&ull; Driving while license revoked: 1 count

&ull; Seat belt violations: 1 count
