Most men in the audience and on the city&39;s board of commissioners said they like the idea, while most women, including city commissioner Laura Fields weren&squo;t comfortable with a weapon sitting downtown.

One resident said she didn&squo;t know how she&squo;d explain what it was to her young daughter. She said she wants Saluda to remain peaceful and didn&squo;t want to explain that it was used to kill people.

Commissioner John Morgan said she should tell her daughter it represents our freedom.

Another woman in the audience said she is concerned that children would try to play on the artillery.

A male resident said he agreed with Morgan in that if the artillery fits in the scope of the park the city should be honored to have it.

Commissioners directed city administrator Erny Williams to find out the size and specifications of the artillery while commissioners gather more opinions from residents. The city will discuss it further next month.
