Spartanburg County Schools District One will be the charter district for The Need to Read Book Club. The announcement was made at the District One Board of Trustees meeting on Monday. The book club was started by District One student Emily Conrad in 2004. Conrad, now a freshman at Wofford College, presented plans for the national club to the board. The club plans to operate five chapters in the upcoming school year at Mabry Middle School, Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary, Landrum Middle, Inman Intermediate and Campobello-Gramling School. Starting the charter district will give District One the distinction of being the charter group for two national clubs. The National Beta Club was started at Landrum High School.
