John Cash rode with Lance Armstrong in May, 2006 and since then his life hasn&squo;t been the same.

Cash&squo;s love for bicycling is still the same. After riding with his cycling hero, he returned home with a new direction in his life. Lance was so passionate about raising awareness for a cure for cancer. John was convinced that he could use the same platform (his cycling) to make a difference.

Cash&squo;s story is very personal. Both his parents lost their battle with cancer. His sister (Betty) is a cancer survivor. John heard about a fundraising organization in Greenville called Palmetto Peloton Project (PPP). They use their cycling events to raise money for the Greenville Hospital System Oncology department and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

John teamed up with the Palmetto Peloton Project, and during the past 3 years this area has donated over $20,000. The PPP has raised over $400,000 to fight this dreaded disease.

In April, John conducted a fundraising event called Climb to Conquer Cancer. He rode up the Saluda grade 10 times, and the event raised $3,300. His goal this year is $10,000. So far he has raised about $6,000.

When asked what &dquo;Livestrong&dquo; means to him, John said, &dquo;Livestrong means using your gifts and energy to make a difference in someone&squo;s life or situation.

John&squo;s fundraising campaign this year comes to an end on August 29th when the USPRO cycling championships come to Greenville. As a top fundraiser, John is being allowed to race the Time Trial (21 mile race against the clock) course before the professionals race. His race starts a 8:30 am on Saturday August 29th at the Clemson University International Automotive Center for Research at I-85 and Laurens Road in Greenville. This is a great chance to see some of the best pro cyclists in the USA.
