Thanks to the marvels of medical science, our parents are living longer than ever before. Adults over age 80 are the fastest growing segment of the population, and most will spend years dependent on others for their most basic needs. Who will step in to assist? Not the U.S. Government. No, more than likely the responsibility will fall to their baby boomer children, 77 million strong, who are totally perplexed by the myriad of questions about quality care, costs and living options, just to name a few. What does Medicare pay for? Do you need long term health insurance? Why is a CCRC a tax benefit? Will mom qualify for independent living? How much does a Home Health aide cost? In the midst of all these questions lies the fact that their own retirement savings are being depleted and there is no hope on the horizon for their own golden years. Surprisingly enough, AAHSA, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging can help.&bsp; Visit www.aahsa.org Another great site for information is www.carf.org which lists all those communities nationwide that are accredited, which means they have voluntarily gone through a rigorous process to attain a &uot;Good Housekeeping&uot; seal of approval. Hope this helps relieve some of the pressure.
