Cantrell wins national wrestling title

Cantrell, along with 13 other members of the Strong and Courageous Wrestling Club, competed in the National High School Coaches Association (NCHSA) 13th Annual National Open Wrestling Championship and the 4th Annual Beach Wrestling Championship in Virginia Beach, Va.

This event is an invitation only, scholastic-style wrestling event. It was host to nearly 1,000 wrestlers in four divisions. Cantrell qualified by placing second at the NHSCA Nationals back in April.

Coached by Norman Osteen and Coy Cantrell, Damion brought home Polk County&squo;s first national wrestling title.

He went 6-0 to win both the National Open and the Beach Wrestling Championships at 105 pounds.

North Carolina placed fourth as a team, winning four national titles.
