Born in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Andrew and Louise Clausen Benson. He was a graduate of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He moved to Polk County 13 years ago from Sebring, Fla. Mr. Benson was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Ennette Benson, and a son, Dean Benson.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Rudolph of Olivia, Minn.; a son, Clark Benson (Martha) of Tryon; and grandchildren Brent Rudolph of Chisago City, Minn., and Lisa Walton (Aaron) of Olivia, Minn., and great-grandchildren Elijah , Ezekiel, Arabelle and Jonah Walton of Olivia, Minn.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
