Polk County High art student scores big on AP exam

Underwood graduated from Polk County High School this past June, earning scholarships from The Savannah College of Art and Design, Polk County Community Foundation, Tryon Painters and Sculptors and the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Underwood will further his education in the fall at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Ty is the son of Gary and Katha Underwood of Saluda.

For more than 50 years, the College Board&squo;s Advanced Placement Program (AP) has partnered with colleges, universities, and high schools to provide students with the opportunity to take college-level course work and exams while still in high school. &bsp;

The AP Studio Art course is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art.

AP Studio Art is not tested through a written examination; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year.
