Two Landrum men were arrested earlier this month for attempting to rob the Landrum Pharmacy, according to the Landrum Police Department.

Landrum Police Chief Bruce Shelnut announced the arrests during a Landrum City Council meeting on Tuesday and said that Timothy McSwain and Fabian Collins, both in their 30s, were arrested and charged with two counts each of burglary and two counts each of malicious damage to property.

The suspects were not related to recent Tryon Pharmacy robberies, Shelnut said.

Shelnut says around 1 a.m. July 3, the suspects broke into a back room of the Landrum Pharmacy and got into the attic to attempt to gain access. The roof started to fall in, Shelnut said, causing the alarm to go off.

When officers arrived on scene, a man was standing by a vending machine outside and after being questioned, admitted he was on look-out, Shelnut said. The suspect outside assumed that the other suspect was still in the building, but later admitted that when the ceiling caved, he left the scene, then returned, but didn&squo;t know where the other suspect was.

Shelnut says with the use of the fire department&squo;s thermal imaging, crews from Tryon, Spartanburg County and Inman searched for the second suspect in the area, but did not immediately locate him. The second suspect was later apprehended at a residence, Shelnut said.

McSwain and Collins were transported to the Spartanburg County Jail upon their arrests.
