Three Polk softballers named All-State

Byrd, a catcher, batted .436 on the season. It was her third consecutive year with a batting average over .400.

Gibbs, a rightfielder, led Polk with a .470 average.

Both players were named All-District, All-area, and All-Conference.

Montgomery pitched her way to a 6-1 record while batting .329 with 26 hits, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored. She struck out only six times all season.

Honors also were announced for Denise Edwards, Nikki Williams, and Jamie Hrobak.

Edwards, a senior shortstop, was named All-District and All-Area. Williams, a junior centerfielder, made All-Area. Freshman pitcher Hrobak was named All-Area and All-Conference.

Polk finished the season with a record of 19-7.
