Dog Day of Summer: 46th Coon Dog Day in Saluda Saturday

He was instrumental in starting the Saluda Medical Center. His wife, Martha, was also chosen as grand marshal this year, but she will not be able to attend because of an illness.

The city has decided to drive the marshal car decorated with signs in memory of Hardin.

Hop Foster will serve as the master of ceremonies as he&squo;s done for many years.

The 46th annual event will also include the traditional downtown street dance from 8 to 10 p.m. with square dance caller Archie Hardy and the Lonesome Road Band.

The small downtown of Saluda will be packed all day tomorrow with a breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. at the Saluda Senior Center. There will be will be 37 craft and amusement vendor booths and 12 food vendors.

The morning festivities include a doggie refreshment area with splashing pools and treats for dogs on Main Street.

Coon dog showing events begin in the afternoon at the Saluda School ball field with the bench show at 1 p.m., the treeing contest at 3 p.m. and the annual night hunt beginning at 8 p.m.

Various bands will play throughout the day, including the Green River Boys, Flaco & Ze Clownettes, McGuire&squo;s Pipe Band, Sound Investment, Unspoken Tradition, Folsom Prison Gang and Loneome Road Band for the street dance.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. (see schedule on page 6 for a full list of events).

Featured in the parade this year will be this year&squo;s Coon Dog Day Queen Jennifer Hayes and Princess Paige Bagwell. The baby princess is Bailey Phillips and the baby prince is Dakota Page.
