Candidates begin filing for Columbus, Saluda, Tryon elections

In Columbus, incumbent Michael Gage filed to retain his council seat, and Ernestine Kan filed to seek a council seat.

In Saluda, incumbents Johnnie Kinard and Laura Fields filed to retain their commissioner seats and George Sweet also filed for the city&39;s board of commissioners.

No one filed to run for elections in the Town of Tryon.

The Town of Columbus has four open seats: Mayor Kathleen McMillian and council members Gage, Ricky McCallister and Margaret Metcalf.

The City of Saluda has three open seats: Mayor Rodney Gibson and council members Kinard and Laura Fields.

The Town of Tryon has three open seats as well: Mayor Alan Peoples and council members Jim Scott and Dennis Durham.

This year&squo;s municipal election will be held on Nov. 3. Persons wishing to file for town council can do so at the Polk County Board of Elections Office at the Womack building in Columbus.
