&dquo;The Band of the Nation&squo;s Capital&dquo; operates under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Sheila M. Klotz. The commander studied percussion at West Virginia University, served in the U.S. Air Force Band as a percussionist and is an active freelance musician and adjudicator throughout the region.&bsp;

The band boasts a proud lineage going back to the legendary Corcoran Cadets of 1883, the D.C. militia that inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his march of the same name. Through a series of mergers, the ensemble provides musical support for the District of Columbia National Guard and proudly represents the guard and the federal city throughout the world.&bsp;

Noteworthy performances include musical support for the inauguration of President Obama, burial of the Unknown Soldier in 1921, the state funerals of Presidents Harding and Kennedy, overseas deployments to Greece and Panama, consecutive appearances at the Great American Brass Band Festival in Kentucky and concert tours throughout New England, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.

Although centrally located among the finest military bands in the world, The 257th Army Band is the only organization officially recognized as &dquo;The Band of the Nation&squo;s Capital.&dquo;&bsp;
