S.C. Department of Transportation (DOT) has already begun work near the Landrum exit on a resurfacing project for I-26.

The project is estimated at $6,027,000 and is to resurface&bsp; and rehabilitate I-26 from Landrum (exit 1) to the Campobello exit (exit 5) or five miles of interstate eastbound.

The project began a few weeks ago, and the estimated project completion date is next summer.

Other projects along I-26 planned by the S.C. DOT are scheduled to begin this fall. They include placement of new thermoplastic markings to improve daytime and nighttime visibility on 22 miles of the interstate beginning in Landrum.

The markings, which will be added from the Landrum exit to mile marker 22, are expected to be completed by next summer.

The construction phase of the estimated $550,000 project is being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or federal stimulus money.

The N.C. DOT also plans to repave 10 miles of I-26, from the S.C. line to Saluda.
