The Town of Tryon has added the Mimosa Inn in Lynn to its corporate limits and approved a conditional use permit to allow the inn to house a restaurant.

Tryon Town Council met Tuesday and approved both actions following a quasi-judicial hearing on the conditional use permit. A few nearby residents spoke against the restaurant, mainly expressing concerns about the possibility of increased traffic and noise.

Hilda Pleasants and Carl Pleasants spoke against the restaurant, saying they are concerned over hours of operation and possible noise and increased traffic in an already busy and dangerous area.

They also expressed concern over the town&39;s annexing the non-contiguous property, saying they felt it might make it easier for the town to annex properties around the Mimosa Inn.

Jim Ott said he plans on being a friendly neighbor and he is simply trying to run a business. The couple said the police have never been called to the property even when they have hosted wedding parties of between 100 and 200 people.

Jim and Stephanie Ott, owners of the inn, plan to add 15 parking spaces for a 40-seat restaurant. The town agreed that the parking spaces be added after the inn concludes its current efforts to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places because of requirements of the register.

Town officials said that they don&squo;t think a restaurant at the inn would cause any problems.

The town previously held a public hearing as required for the annexation.
