Polk commissioners on Monday heard an update from finance officer Sandra Hughes that the county is in line to break even on the current year budget. The county currently has a revenue shortfall of $2.5 million, but officials estimated in the budget a $2.8 million revenue shortfall for revenues including state sales tax. If the county breaks even that includes spending approximately $2.5 million on the purchase of Lake Adger and running water lines. The county begins its new fiscal year July 1 with a public hearing on the proposal set for June 8.
