Gertrude Burns

Born in Bedford, VA she was a daughter of the late Erna and Leonard Stanley.&bsp; She was also preceded in death by her husband Calvin in 1979, three brothers and two sisters.

Gertrude dedicated her life to two things, being a mother and a nurse.&bsp; She worked in Polk County for the majority of her nursing career.&bsp; She worked at St. Luke&squo;s Hospital in Tryon for 25 years as the night supervisor delivering the majority of children born in Polk County during that time.&bsp; After her long time career with St. Luke&squo;s she worked with Hospice of Polk County and then for several different nursing homes.&bsp;&bsp; She didn&squo;t actually retire from nursing until she was in her 80&squo;s.

Survivors include her three sons, Robert Burns and wife Elizabeth of East Ridge, TN, Stanley Burns and wife Cathy of Landrum, SC and Michael Burns and wife Tracy of Hendersonville, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
