Miss Polk County High School 2009 pageant Saturday

Jazmine Donee Bridgeman, daughter of Kim and Miguel Roman of Mill Spring, is a senior award-winning dancer and soccer goalie for the Wolverines. She has been dancing since age 3 and has won state and national awards. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, HOSA, runs track, and cheers.

Savannah Lee Callahan, a freshman, is the daughter of Blythe and Kevin Seay of Saluda. Savannah plays softball for PCHS, cheers, is in Key Club, and is active in theater. She is also very active in her church youth group.

Allison Faith Clayton, daughter of Clay and Tracey Clayton, is a freshman and member of the JV women&squo;s soccer team, a member of FCA and Key Club, and has landed roles in both the fall play and the spring musical at PCHS. She has remained an honor roll student since elementary school.

Alyssa Brooke Fincher, daughter of Missy and Trey Fincher of Tryon, is a senior who is the current caption of the cheerleading squad and has cheered all four years of high school. Alyssa is an award-winning dancer in tap, jazz, ballet, point, modern, hip-hop, lyrical, and clogging. She is very active in her youth group at First Baptist Church in Tryon, and is a member of the FFA, Key Club, Student Council, and International Thespian Society. She has participated in several musicals and has served as a member of Homecoming Court for three years.

Krystle Michelle Fortenberry, a senior Medical Technology student, is the daughter of Angela and Benjamin Tipton of Mill Spring, and James Fortenberry. Krystle has been a varsity cheerleader and is active in HOSA, Interact, and Spanish clubs. She was an editor for the yearbook and this year, created a club to support the work of Relay for Life. She volunteers at Thermal Belt Outreach and works at Tryon Estates.

Devin Riley Gillespie, daughter of Kevin Gillespie and Leshea Merrill, is a senior Medical Technology student. She is an accomplished, award-winning dancer who has been dancing for 15 years. She is the vice-president of HOSA who has helped organize school blood drives and fundraisers for Relay for Life. She is a trained hospice volunteer who also volunteers at White Oak.

Carmen Marie Hehner, a sophomore, is the daughter of Joseph Hehner of Saluda and Tammy Hehner. She is a former soccer player and an active member of the drama department. She volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Hendersonville and received an award for her efforts.

Ashley Rebecca Lynch is a sophomore at PCHS. She is an active sports participant, playing three sports ‐ volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She is a member of Student Council, FFA, FCA, FTA, and Key Club. She is an active member of the Horticulture Team. She is also active in her church youth group.

Meghan Elizabeth Magin is a senior, the daughter of Colleen Dolan and Mike Stone of Columbus. Meghan is a dancer and a tennis player. She is also a member of the International Thespian Society and has participated in a number of plays both at the high school and in the community. She works at Ingles part-time and will be attending UNC-C to pursue a degree in Elementary Education.

Brittany Faye Phipps is the daughter of David and Genie Phipps and is a sophomore. She plays volleyball, basketball, and soccer for PCHS. She is also a member of Key Club, Interact Club, National Honor Society, and FCA. She is active in her youth group at Coopers Gap and volunteers at the senior center.

Kailey Neely Russell is a sophomore, daughter of Keith and Tami Russell of Rutherfordton. Kailey is an athlete who plays volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She is also a member of FCA, Key Club, FFA, Student Council and is a member of the Medical Science program. She is also a state champion shower of sheep through 4-H.

Susan Stanhope Sams is the daughter of Winn Sams of Tryon and Gus Sams. She is a freshman who is active in drama, cheerleading, and Key Club. She is an honors student. She is the recipient of the Coach&squo;s Award for JV Cheerleading 2008.

Lauren Brooke Whitmire, a senior, is the daughter of Glenn and Sheila Whitmire of Mill Spring. She holds officer positions in Interact Club, Spanish Club, and is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, International Thespian Society, FFA, and FCA. She is a Harvard Book Award recipient, Homecoming Queen, and was voted &dquo;Best Personality&dquo; by the senior class.

The final contestant is Ciera Danielle Wilson, daughter of Jeffrey and Dottie Wilson of Columbus. Ciera is a singer and actor. She cheers and is a member of FCA. She served on Homecoming Court this year and is very active in her church.

Tickets for the Miss PCHS Pageant are available by calling (828)894-2525 and will be available at the door the night of the pageant. The auditorium will open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and the pageant will begin at 7:30 p.m.
