Showdown on the baseball diamond: Polk, Landrum rivalry heats up

(photo by staff photographer)The Landrum High baseball team narrowly edged Polk County 13-12 on Wednesday night at Polk County to captured bragging rights in the first round of a series between the two local rivals. The second round takes place tomorrow at Landrum at 2 p.m. Both teams are having outstanding seasons. Polk, 11-2 overall, is in first place and unbeaten in its conference at 6-0. Landrum, 9-5 overall, finished as the regular season champion in its region with an 8-1 record and is ranked among the top five 1A teams in South Carolina. Polk County coach Ty Stott says the Wolverines have not defeated their cross border rival in about seven years. They get another chance tomorrow on the Cardinals&39; field.&bsp;
