Council made no formal decision Tuesday, but city officials did discuss details of the project, such as where the decorative crosswalks should be located.
Wolochowicz said preliminary estimates are that the project would cost between $17,000 and $20,000 at about $8.50 per square foot. The city plans to stamp about eight segments along Rutherford Street and its connections to Shamrock Avenue, Church Avenue and a crosswalk in front of CVS.
To pay for the project, the city could use hospitality tax funding, which the city began collecting about midway through last fiscal year. Since October, 2008, the city has collected $73,000 in hospitality tax, which is paid by tourist businesses and can only be used for certain expenditures, such as beautification projects.
Council also decided on Tuesday to give the Spartanburg Convention and Visitor&squo;s Bureau $500 per month. The Bureau distributes advertising about Landrum and requested funding from all county municipalities recently.
Wolochowicz also said on Tuesday that other city projects currently on hold are sealing the walking trail at Brookwood Park, improving the Simmons Park basketball court and installing new mulch in the Brookwood Park playground.
